The electromagnetic flow meter (LD) works on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. It measures only conductive liquids (conductivity ≥5μS/cm). The measuring tube has no flow restrictions or moving parts. Pressure loss is zero. The meter never blocks. This makes it ideal for dirty or corrosive liquids like wastewater, slurry, acid and alkaline solutions, and seawater. It cannot measure pure water, oils, or gases. Diameters range from DN10 to DN2000. Accuracy is 0.5%.

High-quality flow meter options include the vortex flow meter (LU). This works on the Karman vortex principle. It is the only flow meter that measures liquids, gases, and steam with one instrument. The structure is simple. There are no moving parts. Pressure loss is low. The turndown ratio is wide. Small changes in temperature and pressure barely affect readings. It suits clean single-phase fluids like compressed air, natural gas, saturated and superheated steam, and clean water. It does not work with media containing heavy dust, viscous fluids, or crystallizing substances. Diameters range from DN15 to DN2000. Liquid accuracy is 1.0%. Gas and steam accuracy is 1.5%.

Turbine, Orifice, and Specialty Flow Meters

 

The turbine flow meter (LW) works on the fluid-driven rotor principle. It offers the highest precision among flow meters (up to 0.2%). It suits clean liquids and gases for trade settlement and precision metering. The internal bearings require very clean media. An effective filter must be installed upstream. The meter does not suit high-viscosity or particle-containing media. Diameters range from DN4 to DN300.

The orifice plate/differential pressure flow meter works on the pressure drop principle. It has a simple structure, low cost, and no moving parts. It suits large-diameter steam, gas, and liquid measurement. Pressure loss is significant. The turndown ratio is narrow (typically only 1:3). Installation requires straight pipe runs before and after the meter.

The rotameter suits small flow gas or liquid on-site indication. It has a simple visual design and low cost. It is commonly used in laboratories or small pipelines. The ultrasonic flow meter uses the time-of-flight method. The clamp-on installation does not require pipe cutting. This non-invasive installation is its biggest advantage. It suits clean water and wastewater in large pipes.
