One Meter for Liquid, Gas, and Steam Measurement
Steam metering, compressed air monitoring, and natural gas transmission all require a flow meter that handles multiple media types. The instrument needs a simple structure with low pressure loss and long-term reliability. Anhui Tiankang's vortex water flow meter (LU series) works on the Karman vortex street principle. When fluid flows past a non-streamlined triangular bluff body in the pipe, regular vortices form alternately on the downstream sides. The vortex shedding frequency is proportional to the flow velocity. A probe detects this frequency. The electronic circuit converts it to volume flow rate. There are no moving parts. Wear resistance is excellent. Service life is long. Small temperature and pressure fluctuations barely affect the readings.
The key advantage of the vortex water flow meter is its versatility. One instrument works for three media types. It measures liquids like water and light oils. It measures gases like compressed air, nitrogen, and natural gas. It also measures steam including saturated and superheated steam. This is a capability that electromagnetic flow meters cannot match. Electromagnetic meters only measure conductive liquids. Turbine flow meters only measure clean liquids and gases. For steam metering, we offer the temperature and pressure compensation type (LUP). This integrates internal temperature and pressure sensors. It automatically converts operating volume flow to mass flow or standard volume flow.
Vortex water flow meter products come in multiple configurations. The integrated type (LU) combines the sensor and converter in one unit. It provides on-site display of instantaneous flow and totalized flow. Wiring is simplest. This suits standard pipeline installations. The remote type (LUF) suits high-temperature steam pipelines where the transmitter needs to be away from heat. It also suits buried installations or explosion-proof remote installations. The probe has IP67 protection. For large-diameter pipelines above DN300, the insertion type (LUW) allows hot-tap installation without stopping production. The cost is much lower than full-bore flow meters.


Application Limits and Selection Criteria
The vortex water flow meter is suitable for clean single-phase fluids. This means media without significant dust content. It should not be viscous or prone to crystallization. If the fluid contains excessive particles or is too viscous, the vortex signal will be disrupted and accurate measurement will not be possible. For selection, customers need to provide the medium name, operating temperature, operating pressure, flow range, and pipeline diameter.
All products strictly follow JB/T 9249 and ISO 10715 standards. Diameter range is DN15 to DN2000. Pressure ratings are PN16/25/40. Export shipments include ANSI flanges. Accuracy for standard liquids is 1.0%. Accuracy for gases and steam is 1.5%. Output signals include 4-20mA and pulse as standard. RS485 Modbus and HART protocol are optional. All structures are available with flameproof type (LUX, ExdⅡCT6) for gas pipelines, chemical plants, and other hazardous areas.
