Due to a lack of robust institutional and systemic support from the state, my country's instrumentation industry suffers from a shortage of high-level, multidisciplinary professionals-specifically, versatile experts who are well-versed in the intersection of various fields. Independent innovation capabilities are weak, and there is a scarcity of proprietary intellectual property. This is concretely manifested in the acute shortage of domestically produced high-end automation products and a lack of market competitiveness.
Modern metrology is the product of a high degree of integration across optics, mechanics, electronics, computer science, and various fundamental disciplines. It is highly responsive to new technologies and characterized by rapid product turnover; new products are launched annually. In today's era of surging information technology development, competition is increasingly fierce, and even a slight lag in development speed can result in being left far behind. Although my country has entered the 21st century, many aspects of the industry remain at the level of the early 1980s. Large-scale and high-end instruments and equipment rely almost entirely on imports, and certain specialized instruments are not produced domestically at all; furthermore, significant challenges regarding quality assurance persist for mid-to-low-end products.
Therefore, planning at the national strategic level and strong support through relevant resources are essential to narrowing the gap. Unless testing instrument enterprises can achieve substantial scale, they will struggle to compete effectively with international giants-yet the initial growth phase requires massive, long-term capital investment.
